History of Rexpointe Kennels 6765 Rochester Road Troy, Michigan |
|
|
This site has operated as a dog kennel in a former dairy barn for at least 15 years prior to the 1950's. It was purchased by Edward and Alice Swiderski in 1956. Alice had started a line of parti-color cocker spaniels that was eventually known around the world. Mrs. Swiderski, currently living in Tucson, spent many years improving the Rexpointe cockers and traveled extensively to exhibit them. At the same time Edward Swiderski, now deceased, had owned Ed's Mobil on 14 mile and Woodward. Ed began developing the boarding business, which has served as a "good home away from home" for several generations of beloved family pets in the Troy-Rochester area. In 1989, Edward and Alice formally "retired", and turned management of the business over to their daughter and son-in-law, veterinarians Joel and Kathleen Smiler. |

The
kennel was ably overseen by long time Troy resident, Lois Lewis. In 2001,
Edward's grandson, Michael Smiler, completed his education in Nevada and
moved to Michigan to take over management of Rexpointe. Under his constant
oversight, with manager Tammy Collins, the kennel moved into a 3rd generation
of family management. Continuous meticulous care and grooming of animals
have been longtime services available at Rexpointe and will continue as
a loving place to leave cherished family companions.
